Gov. Ron DeSantis held a news conference in Volusia County Friday afternoon.

He spoke at Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach.

Toward the end of the news conference, DeSantis addressed the migrant relocation.

He said those who were sent to Martha’s Vineyard signed releases and were provided with a map of where they’d be taken.

“The folks that are contracting, not only do the people, they give them a release form to sign. They actually give them a packet and in that packet, included a map of Martha’s Vineyard,” DeSantis said at the news conference.

“It’s all voluntary because it’s just the type of thing where we think that’s the right way to do it,” DeSantis said at the news conference.

DeSantis also commented on Biden gathering with his Cabinet to address the migrant relocation.

“He didn’t scramble to get his cabinet together when we had millions of people illegally pouring across the southern border,” DeSantis said at the news conference.

Faith leaders in Orlando criticized DeSantis and said he’s been acting like leaders of countries people have fled from.

“He rejected women, children and men who were escaping countries that were oppressed by dictatorships and in doing that, he didn’t behave like an American. He behaved like the very same leaders of the countries those individuals were leaving,” Father Jose Rodriguez, of Iglesia Episcopal Jesus de Nazaret, said.

Florida governor candidate Charlie Crist sent a Sunshine Law request in response to the migrant relocation.

He called for the governor’s office to release their communication with the Massachusetts governor about the relocation.

Crist criticized DeSantis’ recent actions, calling them “cruel.”

“Ron DeSantis decided to traffic human beings on Florida taxpayers’ dime to score political points. It was cruel, it was probably illegal, and he owes the people of our state answers,” Crist said in a statement.
